Montclair State University partners with AWIS New Jersey to provide female STEM students access to local AWIS resources

Montclair State University recognition as a doctoral degree-granting institution in 2016 by New Jersey State’s Office of the Secretary of Higher Education has paved the way for expansion of its doctoral programs. Montclair continues to expand the University’s development as a research doctoral university, simultaneously expanding its mission to promote student diversity.

The University recently appointed Dr. Lora Billings as the Dean of the College of Science and Mathematics. Billings has a vision to further strengthen the STEM enterprise at Montclair by fostering external partnerships and providing experiential learning opportunities for the students. The partnership with Association for Women in Science, Central Jersey is one such key partnership.

Tori Zirul, Executive Director of  the MSU student team will lead the activities of the group.

The partnership was facilitated by Linda Obenauer-Kutner who is on the Advisory Boards for both the organizations. “Having a close association with both the organizations provided me an opportunity to envision how the partnership would be mutually beneficial”, said Kutner.

We are looking forward to work with the team of female STEM students at Montclair State, said Kaman Misra, President for AWIS New Jersey. “We hope to develop such associations with other institutions within New Jersey. With numerous resources to share, the students will have access to our wide outreach to the New Jersey STEM ecosystem and we look forward to many similar productive associations”, she added.
